Choices we made

This time I have chosen my unsung hero from a complete different part of Life .I read an insipiring story of an IITian by his batch mate, who took to the path of social work.
He is Shreesh Jadhav , who stood second across India in JEE and completed his B.Tech in Computer Sciences with a perfect 10 CPL.A recipient of President gold medal at IIT KANPUR, he could have earned money as much as he wanted. Being the only son among three sisters it was a decided factor that he would also take the path of earning Dollars. But he decided to follow his heart and took the path of social work in Ramakrishna Mission. He believed that "Just like all sectors of Life ,Our social sectors do need intelligent people"..
Unmarried ,he has dedicated his entire life life towards a cause .Not only he has taught computer science to thousand of students there but also is involved in many projects being carried out there.
I thank the writer Mr Rahul Awasthi for sharing his story with us.In his words"Today he is known as Shreesh Maharaj in Belur Math.He has clearly found his own path and has left a trail for others. to follow."

Will to fight and survive

Today my unsung hero is not a human being but the most dependable friend of humans since thousand years. He is a Mongrel from one of the villages of Bihar and is fighting for justice since years. So why did I plan him to be in my column? It is because ,of his sincerity and will to fight for justice.Do you know how long he has been fighting for justice ?It is since last five years that "chotu" an 8 year old mongrel is fighting for justice going round around courts with his owner "Rajkumari Devi" who treats her like her brother.
Actually it all started when in 2003 when "chotu" bite a neighbour jagdish Das when he was three year old.The Local SDO ordered his shoot but luckily chotu was saved because of public out cry and timely intervention of Maneka Gandhi and animal protection group. But since then the case is pending in the court and chotu is blamed for biting any one going near him.According to Rajkumari who got him as a gift from her mother, chotu is very docile and only attacks while saving her and her things.Rajkumari has very limited income source from few goats and a few area of land. She blames her neighbours having an eye on her property. She further explains that if it would not have been chotu she would have lost her property to her greedy neighbours.
As chotu sits down near the court room he looks a perfect picture of docile dog with lots of cut mark on his jaws. These marks have appeared by the stones thrown on him by jealous neighbours.Even the executive magistrate was amazed by his docility and he commented that had chotu been an aggressive dog than he would have attacked many on court premises.Perhaps Mr SDO should come and check himself before passing such judgments.
One interesting calculation: The seven human years are considered as one year of dog.So it means that Chotu is fighting his case since last 35 years.Any one is listening in the judicial premises.......

Like Father Like Son

When I started to write blog on this topic the very first name came into my mind was Baba Amte.In fact I had decided to write about him as my first entry on this topic but than found out about few others so thought to write about him as my next entry. But yesterday when I read about his son and daughter in law who also have led a life of self less service for the tribals of Madhya Pradesh, I decided to name them as my next unsung heroes.

In fact we all are familiar with the works of Baba Amte but do we know that his son and daughter in law have continued his work .I only came to know about them by reading the newspaper yesterday . Reading about him made me feel that we are nothing in front of them and our country is running high because of their good works.
In India they say that an able son should carry his father's work forward and that is what Dr Prakash Amte has done exactly. He has taken the mantle from his father and 35 years ago set up his first hospital for the Madia Gond Tribals in the forest regions of gadchiroli district of Maharastra .
The decision to work for these tribals was taken when he visited them along with his father while he was studying. He encountered their poverty ,suffering to health care.It was than and there he decided to work for them after getting the medical degree.I salute to Dr Mandakini who also joined her husband in this mission and the newly wed trudged 50 km from Alapalli to reach Hemkalasa where Baba Amte had put up a hut.
Life was very tough for them earlier.the place used to be cut off for six months with no bridges on river. The tribal dialect was difficult to communicate as those people did not speak any other language. The most difficult thing was that these tribals were suspicious of outsiders and resistant to the idea of visiting the Amtes for treatment.
Besides working for these tribals ,Prakash is known for his love for wild life and nature. He has set up a virtual zoo at his Hemkalasa camp and calls it "Animal Orphange".In fact two years before e was beaten by a viper ,which almost pushed him to death. The snake now is the member of his zoo.
Now after so many years he got a recognisation, when he along with wife got the Magsaysay award for his work in the category of community leadership. His father had won the same award in 1975.
That is why my post says"LIKE FATHER LIKE SON"

Rescue people from Burning tower

What will you do if you see a building burning with people trapped inside it? 90% will say that they will shout and pray to god to save them but nothing more than that.Another 8 to 9 % will say that they will call for help because that is the only way to save those people. It is only those 1 % who will say that they will try to save them by going inside. But truly only .01 % will really do that daring work. It is a true fact because all of us are somewhere selfish to ourselves. We want to help others but not in the crunch situations.
The story of another very ordinary man inspired to write my next post.On Thursday 24th July 2008 at 6.15 pm fire broke out on the third floor of Netaji Bhavan in Hyderabad. This house contained a part Of ING Vyasya bank's Loan divison.
At that time there were 20 employees in the office. As soon as the news broke out there was a rush in the building.Leaving three of them rest escaped while coming down from the stairs. The other three ran to the terrace thinking that they will be safe there. But soon the whole floor was engulfed in the fire. The fire tenders rushed in but as usual their stairs were not high enough to rescue those trapped on the terrace.People came from everywhere to watch the scene but they could not do any thing.suddenly Arif a passing man saw this and decided to get into the act.He was a mountaineer and decided to use his skill to save those people. He found that there was a tree nearby whose branches were reaching to the terrace.Arif got up on the ladder and holding the branches of the tree he reached to the terrace.Than he tied them with the rope he was carrying and slowly got them on the ladder through the tree. In this way he saved three not only three lives but also three families for whom otherwise the day would have turned a black day in their life.
May be for him and others it was a matter of small work but for me he is my next unsung hero. And please I request every reader to thank the tree which also played a crucial role to save the lives.

Strong Will Wins

A son of a Lorry driver passing from IIT M may not be a big news for any one,But if only one comes to know that he is a disabled person and that to his both legs have been amputated at the age of seven than you might sit and notice about the news.
Well the story of Naresh and few others inspired me to create a separate blog for the people whom I really think are the unsung heroes in this world।Though I was toying with the idea of creating something new for a long time ,But these few stories gave me the inspiration to create a separate blog on them and dedicate my writing to them। The people featured in my will blog may not be famous but to me they will be the real heroes।It is because they faught with all the audacities of life to come out winner।
I will start my new blog with the story of Naresh।He is the son of a lorry driver who met with an accident at the age of seven ।Because of that both his legs got amputated।But he did not loose his heart and carried on in his life।On July 25th 2008 he will be graduating from IIT Madras with a B।Tech degree ।
Of course his rise towards this success would not have been possible without the support of his entire family।His sister used to carry him in classes।As he grew, his father taught him the important lesson of being independent and thus he resolved to to take care of himself।
Encouraged by his father and entire family he never looked back and today he is ready to join his first job as an software engineer at Bangalore.
That is why I always believe " लहरों से डरकर नौका पार नहीं होती
मेहनत करने वालो की कभी हार नहीं होती "

If one wants to know more about him than one should visit "http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-3267028,prtpage-1.cms"
